One Pastor’s Take on Christians and Abortion Clinics- Pt. 2

Abortion: A Gospel Issue – The battle for life is undeniably a Gospel issue, and everyone in God’s church should be concerned with the Gospel. At the very core of pro-life ministry are two facts, the church has the Gospel, and those involved in abortion need the Gospel. What we must do is show up and give it to them, and when the church chooses to ignore the gospel opportunities that arise at killing centers, it misses one of the largest and whitest fields that America has to harvest. The cross Jesus carried to Calvary was the ultimate reason He came. His cross had to be carried as a result of an assault by the enemy on innocent, free people God created in His image. Free man of course chose poorly, and lost his innocence, and he died spiritually and eventually physically. Abortion is not much different, an assault by the serpent on the seed of the woman. His tactics haven’t changed, robbing the innocent of life and destroying the soul of the one who chooses death. Unlike Adam, this baby has no earthly voice for choice, but it has a divine one, blood that cries out to a just God. Precious preborn babies need Gospel representatives on earth to speak on their behalf, and we speak when we imitate Christ by picking up the cross of burden and responsibility and die to ourselves on it repeatedly for the Glory of God, the advancement of the Gospel, and the saving of innocent life. This is the mission of sidewalk counselors, prayer warriors and ministers of Jesus at abortion clinics. Do you have eyes to see that abortion is a gospel issue that the church cannot afford to ignore any longer? Though there are many strategies in winning this battle long term, none is more vital than the presence of the Church of God at the place where the battle for souls and lives physically manifests.

Cities4Life Presents The Projecting Hope Film Festival

Cities4Life had the joy of presenting LIFE to a packed theater after the premiere of October Baby at the Projecting Hope Film Festival at Ayrsley Grand Theater last night!

Prior to the movie, Cities4Life was highlighted as a preview to the show. It was amazing to have C4L videos rolling on the big screen! After the movie David Benham of Cities4Life, alongside producer, Cecil Stokes, and lead actor, Jason Burkey, called the standing room only crowd to action for LIFE. David proclaimed that “October Baby inspires people for LIFE, but C4L provides the conduit with which to act!”

Hundreds of people filed out of the theater to make room for hundreds more for the next movie, one of many to be shown all this weekend at the Projecting Hope Film Festival. Throughout the theater the buzz about faith-based films and Cities4Life was electric. Dozens of movie-goers stopped to talk about how inspired they were.

Benham said,“Last night’s showing of October Baby was an excellent motivator, used by C4L to encourage others to be a voice for the voiceless by acting on their pro-life beliefs”.

Souls Saved…at abortion mills?

We daily run into folks at the abortion mills in Charlotte who either give their hearts to Christ, rededicate their hearts to Him, or ask us to pray for them. Many are friends, boyfriends, or spouses of those who are bound and determined to end their own child’s life. It heartbreaking to watch a father or a friend weeping for a child they tried so hard to save but could not break through the hard-heartedness of its mother.

They ask us to pray for them because they know that they have a friend in Jesus. Yes, at the very last place they expected to run into Him (the gates of hell), they find Him. They are not alone. Through the lives of simple Christian moms and dads, grandmas and grandpas, little boys and little girls, living out their faith in the streets, the Gospel of Christ is proclaimed and hope is renewed.

Many are at their wits end when they arrive at the abortion mill. Many times they will hear this little phrase, “There is no pit so deep, that Jesus is not deeper still.” It is a truth that was whispered into the ear of Corrie Ten Boom by her sister Betsy just before she (Betsy) died in a Nazi concentration camp. Corrie never forgot that word and shared its hope and truth with people around the world until her death. People in the most desperate of situations (crisis pregnancy?) have come to Jesus to find these words true.

Because Christ is at the forefront of everything we do and proclaim, literally thousands of folks have recommitted their lives to Christ in the past three years and four months. How many were first time commitments to Christ? It is hard to tell. Most of the mothers we have ministered to that have chosen life for their child have also either given their hearts to Christ or rededicated themselves to him. Many of the fathers have done the same.

On many occasions folks sitting in the parking lot will come and speak with us and ask us to pray for them. We are privileged to see incredible miracles daily in the streets of Charlotte simply because we showed up at the gates of hell.

When the theology of heaven becomes biography in the streets, the gates of hell cannot prevail.

In Christian love,

Flip

Beyond Our Full Understanding

My friend and I had been very nervous about taking our families to sidewalk counsel at the Hebron clinic, having been used to ministering at the Latrobe abortion clinic and knowing that Hebron’s clinic was on such a busy street. However, we are learning quickly that this has some great advantages.

We have been very pleasantly surprised by all numerous “thumbs-up” we get along with friendly, encouraging honks! Not only is this a bit amazing, but today a kind woman pulled into the parking lot and told us how her grand-daughter had been scheduled to die at this clinic before her birth. When her son’s girlfriend showed up for her abortion appointment she saw a group of people out in front of the clinic. Rather than have to deal with the “pro-lifer’s” she turned around and never had the abortion! She never even pulled in the driveway, which means nobody there that day had any idea of this life spared due to their efforts UNTIL NOW! And how thankful she and her family are today!! Before leaving, this grateful grandmother rolled down the back window and showed us this precious little girl who looked to be around one year old. What a miracle! It may seem a simple thing to stand-up for truth and righteousness, but the blessings are truly beyond our full understanding.

How do you get started?

We love to receive questions about the mission, ministry and movement of Cities4Life. If you have a question you’d like an answer to, check out our FAQ page or ask a question in the comment section below! We’d be glad to answer any questions you have.

Q. How do you get started? And once you have begun, how do you stay within the legal parameters so that your attempts to help others aren’t used against you?

A. In another city, the best way to get started in pro-life ministry is to find your enemy. Locate the local abortion mills by typing “abortion” and your zip code in a search engine online. Then do a little research; click on the clinic links, find out the times and hours and types of abortions done there.

Now find your troops! Drive by on an abortion day and see if there is anyone out on the sidewalks. Veteran counselors are your best resource. They’ll help you with literature, information on abortionists, resources and the overall lay of the land. If there is no one outside of the mill then you may have to rally your own troops! Pray about inviting friends or maybe your pastor or elders from your church. Prepare to advance into enemy territory. Be prayerfully ready to bring light into darkness.

If you are really on your own, don’t be discouraged…God may just be raising you up to lead the way! There are wonderful on line resources for things to hand out to abortion-minded women. (link Tiny Hands and HH76) and you may want to look up your closest pregnancy resource center – try optionline.org and your zip code. The quickest way to find out how close you can get to the women coming in to have an abortion is to give it a shot! The clinic will probably call the cops and then you’ll know your boundaries. If you don’t want that much drama, research the public right of way lines and use those.

Now onto the sidewalk! My best short answer advice is to smile and engage her. You are her last friend offering her truth and support before she commits a grievous sin. You are there to represent what is right and your words and presence should confirm this in her conscience. Speak to her on a physical level about the risks and her baby’s development, on the emotional level tapping into the maternal instinct and appealing to her heart, and the most important level – the spiritual; swing to the things of God and tell her what His word says about not only His love for her, but His righteous judgment as well.

Experience is the best teacher. God will reward your faithfulness in going and I believe you will grow spiritually as you stand up for Him, and for the defenseless. Go and advance the kingdom for LIFE!!

In His service… for LIFE,

Jeannette
