How do you get started?

We love to receive questions about the mission, ministry and movement of Cities4Life. If you have a question you’d like an answer to, check out our FAQ page or ask a question in the comment section below! We’d be glad to answer any questions you have.

Q. How do you get started? And once you have begun, how do you stay within the legal parameters so that your attempts to help others aren’t used against you?

A. In another city, the best way to get started in pro-life ministry is to find your enemy. Locate the local abortion mills by typing “abortion” and your zip code in a search engine online. Then do a little research; click on the clinic links, find out the times and hours and types of abortions done there.

Now find your troops! Drive by on an abortion day and see if there is anyone out on the sidewalks. Veteran counselors are your best resource. They’ll help you with literature, information on abortionists, resources and the overall lay of the land. If there is no one outside of the mill then you may have to rally your own troops! Pray about inviting friends or maybe your pastor or elders from your church. Prepare to advance into enemy territory. Be prayerfully ready to bring light into darkness.

If you are really on your own, don’t be discouraged…God may just be raising you up to lead the way! There are wonderful on line resources for things to hand out to abortion-minded women. (link Tiny Hands and HH76) and you may want to look up your closest pregnancy resource center – try optionline.org and your zip code. The quickest way to find out how close you can get to the women coming in to have an abortion is to give it a shot! The clinic will probably call the cops and then you’ll know your boundaries. If you don’t want that much drama, research the public right of way lines and use those.

Now onto the sidewalk! My best short answer advice is to smile and engage her. You are her last friend offering her truth and support before she commits a grievous sin. You are there to represent what is right and your words and presence should confirm this in her conscience. Speak to her on a physical level about the risks and her baby’s development, on the emotional level tapping into the maternal instinct and appealing to her heart, and the most important level – the spiritual; swing to the things of God and tell her what His word says about not only His love for her, but His righteous judgment as well.

Experience is the best teacher. God will reward your faithfulness in going and I believe you will grow spiritually as you stand up for Him, and for the defenseless. Go and advance the kingdom for LIFE!!

In His service… for LIFE,

Jeannette

My Body, My Choice!

Q. We often hear the argument on the pro-choice side mentioning the phrase, “My Body, My Choice” to affirm their decision to abort. How can we debate that argument?

A. Let’s get one thing clear about the debate. NO ONE has the right to tell a woman what she can and cannot do with her body. “Hands off my body” is the rule we need to operate on when it comes to the health and well-being of every living woman. She gets to choose medical procedures for her own body. For the full answer, watch the video below. Do you agree or disagree? Why?

The Strength to Go On

COMMENT FROM A NEW SIDEWALK MISSIONARY: Yesterday I broke down weeping for several minutes and had to go to my car. Please pray that I am comforted by the Holy Spirit and receive strength from the Lord to continue to be used by him. Thank you! - Kathy S.

RESPONSE: I will pray for you! The thing I try to remember is that when we show up there in an attempt to save babies and to minister to moms and dads (and other support people), we are not only trying to do those things, but we are also ones that stand there, speaking up for the voiceless. We show up as their last line of defense, calling to their killers, begging for them to stop. We’re the ONLY ones on the SIDE of the little ones scheduled to die! We are also the only ones who will likely mourn their loss on this earth. While their own flesh and blood fails to value them and mourn their deaths, WE WILL. So, we are an “adoptive family member” for those babies who die there each day. We choose to show up and defend them; we choose to mourn their loss!

I will be the first to admit that this is a difficult ministry. Our family always has a sense of dread when going to minister at the abortion mill. In fact, it STILL makes my stomach turn every time I turn the corner from Monroe Road onto Wendover Road. However, we NEED to remember if we do not do this ministry because it’s too uncomfortable for us, many will die because we gave into our feelings.

We are told by Jesus to take up our cross – a method of torture – and to follow Him! Does Jesus expect us to do what is less than comfortable to us for His sake and for the sake of the moms and babies headed to the abortion mill that day? Yes! Why? Because though we view it to be a torturous calling, the blessings we will be privileged to SEE come to fruition (babies saved; souls saved) and the rewards we will reap in Heaven, far outweigh those uncomfortable feelings of dread!

We CAN do ALL THINGS through CHRIST who gives us strength. BUT…He only gives us the strength after we step out of our vehicles and step foot onto that sidewalk. that is when I feel His power and strength. He gives us what we need, when we need it, but not one moment sooner. It’s a part of trusting in Him; of obeying Him and trusting HIM with those results of saved lives and changed hearts!

Keep up the faith! God *has* called you (I saw it in your eyes that first time at Latrobe last week! I felt it in your spirit!). You MUST obey and just wait on the Lord for that strength. I would also HIGHLY suggest that you look up and bring with you a list of Bible verses that you can read and use in prayer time at the mill. This will help keep your focus where it should be. It will also comfort your heart and give you words to speak!

Feel free to talk with friends and fellow sidewalk counselors about your feelings, too. It’s very beneficial to “debrief” with friends or family afterwards.

What is the one requirement for ministry at abortion mills?

After a long two days of ministry on New Year’s weekend with no babies saved at one particular Charlotte abortion mill, a sidewalk counselor was encouraged by one of our wonderful Life Network doctors who helps abortion-minded women with prenatal care and the delivery of their babies after a change of heart.

“Don’t be discouraged with no “saves”. You were successful in “obedience” and you planted seeds. Earlier this month, I delivered a beautiful baby to a young lady who had come to our clinic over a year ago with a previous pregnancy. She aborted that child, but the next time she became pregnant, he came back because she knew there were people that cared and now she has a newborn child and is ecstatic! She came the first time because there were caring people offering help at the mill on the sidewalk and even though it did not save the first babies life, it did save the second.” - Dr. H.

What is the single requirement for frontline ministry at an abortion mill? OBEDIENCE to the command to rescue those staggering toward death [Proverbs 24:11]; OBEDIENCE to our Creator God! Once we choose to obey, the results are up to God!

Do you just pray or do you approach the abortion-minded women?

We love to receive questions about the mission, ministry and movement of Cities4Life. If you have a question you’d like an answer to, check out our FAQ page or ask a question in the comment section below! We’d be glad to answer any questions you have.

Q. Are you standing outside the abortion center praying or do you approach the young ladies?

A. There are three main parts of ministry in Cities4Life. Proclaim. Provide. Pray. Some are what we call “front line ministries” that reach out and offer help and truth to women as they are entering these places of death and the others are “back end ministries”, such as those in the Life Network, that help the women after they have chosen Life for their unborn children.

Those who are on the “front lines” of this ministry do stand on the sidewalk outside these abortion mills. All Pray; some only Pray. We like to call this “focused prayer”, as they can see those individuals who are coming to the abortion mill and hear of the specific situations over which they can pray right there on the spot. We intercede for the staff, the mothers, the fathers, the babies, anyone who may be involved in the life ending process. Praying at an abortion mill allows for more informed prayer, on-site intercession, and prayerful intervention in many cases. Simply put, we see who needs prayer and the Holy Spirit leads us in how to Pray for the women and support people.

Others Proclaim the truth in Titus 2 style, woman-to-woman and mother-to-mother. Sidewalk counselors speak to women in a loving/helpful tone. They provide a host of information about their unborn baby and offer real choices to these mothers. Some women share their post-abortive experience, others information about the baby’s development, and others about their adoption experiences. Because of buffer zones, there are often limitations on interaction; therefore, a microphone is used to prevent yelling. Many women hear what we say in the building and many have come out and chaged their minds as a result. Men are often the ones interacting and communicating with the men that have driven their wife/girlfriend/sister to the mill. Not only is hope offered, but a clear communication of the Gospel message, as well.

All involved in our ministry are asked to read, sign and adhere to the Cities4Life Code of Conduct. This best demonstrates how we seek to lovingly step into the lives of these mothers and support people in tangible ways and show the love of Jesus.
