Many of you remember the story we brought to you in May regarding Cities4Life founder, David Benham, and his twin brother, Jason, losing their television show with HGTV due to their pro-life and pro-traditional marriage views. Jason and David Benham run The Benham Companies from the Charlotte area, which specializes in real estate management/sales, business consulting, tax planning, technology resource development, social entrepreneur creation, and global efficiency development. The national network HGTV selected the brothers to host a new television show, Flip It Forward, scheduled to air on their network this fall. The focus of the show was to have the Benham Brothers teach families how to flip homes in order to make home ownership a reality for low-income families.
However, in the midst of taping, “Right-Wing Watch,” a project of Hollywood producer Norman Lear’s People for the American Way, ran an article denouncing the Benhams as “anti-gay, anti-choice extremists.”. As HGTV listeners staged an outcry against the Benhams, the network sadly and abruptly made the decision to cancel the show and to stop filming. This caused a storm of support for the Benhams who were being persecuted for their strong and uncompromising faith in Jesus Christ whereby they were featured on numerous national television and radio programs to discuss this unfortunate incident such as CNN‘s Erin Burnett UpFront, Hannity, O’Reilly factor, Glenn Beck’s The Blaze, CBN and many more media outlets.
Now, the brothers are back in the news! Why, you may ask? Because they have completed renovations on the houses that were to be a part of the Flip It Forward show! in a public statement, David Benham shared their heart behind completing these projects after the show canceled.
“The people most affected by HGTV’s decision to cancel the show were the families that stepped out in faith to flip a house for the show,”
Through this very public and wearisome ordeal, Jason and David have been true examples to us- as they did not return hate with hate but responded with the love of Jesus as the nation looked on. You may remember their official response after hearing of HGTV’s decision:
The first and last thought on our minds as we begin and end each day is; have we shined Christ’s light today? Our faith is the fundamental calling in our lives, and the centerpiece of who we are. As Christians we are called to love our fellow man. Anyone who suggests that we hate homosexuals or people of other faiths is either misinformed or lying.
Over the last decade, we’ve sold thousands of homes with the guiding principle of producing value and breathing life into each family that has crossed our path, and we do not, nor will we ever discriminate against people who do not share our views.
We were saddened to hear HGTV’s decision. With all of the grotesque things that can be seen and heard on television today you would think there would be room for two twin brothers who are faithful to our families, committed to biblical principles, and dedicated professionals. If our faith costs us a television show then so be it.

We are blessed to have The Behams as leaders of this ministry and we thank all who supported them by letting your voices be heard to HGTV and for praying for them and their families as they have been slanderously and viciously attacked by many in the liberal community. You can read more about how and why the Benhams pursued completing these homes by clicking here where their story was featured on LifeSite News yesterday. Thank you for standing with the Benhams as they continue their invaluable work to support the ministry of Cities4Life and to speak up for the innocent, defenseless little ones.
