Are you retired and thinking that it’s just time to spend time with the grandchildren and just lay low during these last years. Rest assured that God is not through with you and you can still be used by Him in ways you never thought possible as Adina Hoshour, one of our Cities4Life Team Leaders, discovered as she shares her powerful testimony with us:

“Many of us dream of retirement. The possibilities appear endless yet if we belong to Christ, our calling is certain: we never retire from doing the Lord’s work. If anything, our opportunities are expanded to do His work on a grander scale and with fewer distractions. I began my retirement with an increased and regular devotional time with the Lord. My prayer was simple: “Lord, don’t let me waste what’s left of my life. Please let it be spent on You.” It didn’t take me too long to discover that God has a sense of humor. I am a confessed introvert, one who avoids confrontation so what did God call me to do? Abortion sidewalk counseling! I imagine He is still smiling over that one.

I want to encourage those in or nearing retirement age to consider pro-life counseling as the beginning of a new adventure. You are being given the opportunity to carry a new job description- one uniquely suited to your talents. This is one job that offers retirement benefits unparalleled anywhere!!! Don’t limit yourself to your own possibilities. As Isaiah 55:8 reminds us: ‘My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways,’ declares the LORD. The immediate benefits are priceless: saved souls, saved lives, comradery among fellow pro-lifers, and a Father who is well pleased with you. Other benefits include:

  1. A more substantive and powerful walk with the Lord!
  2. Greater knowledge of God’s Word and greater ability to share it effectively!
  3. An increased faith that withstands the fiery darts of the enemy!
  4. A resolve to live for God despite what others may think of you!

Please come join me in this walk of faith so that you, too, may say ‘I keep my eyes always on the LORD. With Him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.’ And remember, when in doubt: ‘Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, ‘This is the way; walk in it.’  – Isaiah 30:21.”

With the tremendous needs before us to spread the message of life and the Gospel, we need more dependable foot soldiers on the ground. With the schedule flexibility that retirees have at this stage in life, this would be a perfect opportunity to get involved. Do not for one second think that God can’t use you at this stage in your life. He desires to use you to save lives! Would you be willing to donate your time and love to spend one morning a week at one of our area abortion mills reaching out to moms and dads, who need to know that someone cares for them and their unborn babies? As Adina has discovered the eternal rewards and impact of sidewalk counseling ministry are numerous and immeasurable. Let us all as servants of the Most High God, pray that same prayer that Adina prayed no matter what stage of life we are in or what our circumstances may be: “Lord, don’t let me waste what’s left of my life. Please let it be spent on You.”
